Hi everyone! Right now, CalenmirsRPGs.com is hosted via Squarespace. However, they’ve recently increased their rates, and I’m in the process of migrating to Fourthwall. The Fourthwall site is still under construction, though I’ve duplicated all previous blogs in the membership page, and all non-free products should be in the shop. That said, I do plan to deactivate the Squarespace site and move the domain CalenmirsRPGs.com to the Fourthwall site. This will result in link breakage on the site and on related sites like Itch, but I’ll do my best to fix them quickly once I’ve completed the transfer.

For anyone following this via the Squarespace site: I will attempt to port over any current email subscribers, but if you want to get ahead of the curve, there should be options to subscribe via the Membership page. If there aren’t, you can follow my Itch or Bluesky for updates while I continue figuring things out on the new site.

Thanks for your patience, and looking forward to sharing some TTRPG-related updates once the new site is fully operational!

Hello, everyone! If you haven’t yet had a chance to snag a copy of Azimuth Academy (the new magic school setting for SHIFT) or Unburied (a rules-light horror TTRPG about an undead apocalypse), then you can get both, along with 28 other titles, in Taiga’s Eviction Bundle! As the name suggests, the proceeds of this bundle will go to Taiga, a fellow game designer who’s facing eviction in August and needs funds to move to a new place. Make sure to grab the bundle, which features work from 15 talented creators, before the sale ends in 29 days.

Azimuth Academy. A Magic School SHIFT World Spark. Powered by SHIFT Product of Calenmir's RPGs [yellow knight]. The cover features a large, diverse group of students and teachers. From approximately left to right and front to back: a seal with gray markings, a frilled lizard girl with pink clothes and a dragon familiar, a gnome riding a mastiff, a vaguely anthropomorphized flying squirrel, a green-skinned undead girl in a cute dress, a beige-skinned human with messy brown hair reading a book, an elf with light brown skin and short black hair in a green poncho petting the crow on his shoulder, a pale white teen with gray hair and all-black clothes, a green elk with light blue antlers, a mechanical wyrm encircling a turbaned man with light brown skin who's holding a crystal ball, an elf with dark brown skin and long gray hair holding a fireball. Flying above are a brown owl on the left and a night-sky-colored chimera on the right.

Hello, everybody! Just in time for the SHIFT RPG Game Jam 2026, I’ve released Azimuth Academy, which is basically a magic school mini-setting + starter adventure using SHIFT, Hit Point Press’s rules-light TTRPG. In the spirit of the jam, it’s only available on Itch for now, but I will eventually be bringing it to the other places I sell my games.

Some extra details about Azimuth Academy:

  • It’s a prestigious all-gender boarding school + university that supports students in studying magic, whether they are studying the history and theory of magic, are practitioners of magic, or are people of magic honing their innate abilities. Regardless of which track they’re on, students also benefit from a rigorous core curriculum that includes courses across the sciences and the arts, and may also choose from a variety of elective.

  • Aside from academics, Azimuth’s key values are inclusivity and student safety. Practitioners from all traditions of magic are welcome; the dorms are equipped for students of all shapes and sizes; the cafeteria’s buffet-style meals account for the nutritional needs of all students, staff, and faculty; scholarships are granted to any student facing financial difficulties, and unanticipated access needs are address as promptly as possible. As long as a student is willing to put in the effort, the school will ensure they have an environment conducive to their studies.

  • Students nevertheless are constantly inventing new ways to get into trouble, leaving plenty of room for player shenanigans.

In terms of what’s in the World Spark, there’s information on key locations and NPCs, setting-specific opportunities for the Characters to earn experience points (XP), abilities designed for magical high school students, adversaries such as the Dread Spelling Bee, and an Encounter (e.g. starter adventure) about being a first-year at ground zero of the school’s annual prank war.

Written by me, the PDF features art (mostly) by Zachary Schwartz, used with permission. There’s also a plain text file available for download.

More About SHIFT

As mentioned above, it’s a rules-light TTRPG system designed for quick character creation and genre flexibility. I was able to make the game thanks to its open license, which allows third-party creators like me to make games with it. If you want to learn more without buying the core rulebook, there’s a free quickstart that covers the basics. I designed Azimuth Academy with the core rulebook in mind, but the quickstart should be enough to decipher most of it. Regardless, a quick, overly concise summary:

  • Characters have three stats: Body, Mind, and Soul, and each has a different maximum die value (D4 is the best in the game; D12 is the worst). You then assign Focus Traits to the stat(s) of your choice; these Traits are basically groups of keywords that generally describe what your Character is good at, giving you flexibility across different scenarios.

  • As you take uncertain actions, you roll your dice, but they can shift to better dice if you critically succeed, and to worse dice if you critically fail. In the worst case scenario, the stat, Trait, or equipment you’re using could be exhausted.

  • You can gain XP by playing, and XP lets you unlock upgrades.

It’s a really intuitive system, so I was excited I got the opportunity to make a magic school in it. If you’ve wanted to play in a magic school setting that is safe, inclusive, and easy to pick up, this World Spark might be for you.

Welcome to Azimuth Academy. There will be cake, and you may choose whether to consider that a promise or a threat.

Hi everyone! Some of you may be aware of the Itch bundle No ICE in Minnesota, which is a fundraiser for the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota (ILCM). As of March 5th, the charity bundle has raised over $620,000 toward supporting ILCM’s mission of providing free legal representation to low-income immigrants and refugees, as well as to educate about and advocate on behalf of immigrants’ human rights. This bundle is still available for one more week if you also want to contribute to this cause.

Also, this is a high-quality TTRPG bundle: for only $10, you can get over 1400 books, games, and supplements, including my Apocalypse Keys module Noctopolis: An Apocalypse Keys Mystery, for a fraction of their $5000 worth. So grab a copy of the bundle this week, before the deal is gone for good!

The Noctopolis cover (which is a newspaper-style layout featuring art of seven heroes) with the Roll20 Virtual Tabletop badge added.

Hi everyone! When I released Noctopolis: An Apocalypse Keys Mystery as a downloadable PDF product, I mentioned a Roll20 virtual tabletop (VTT) integration was in the works. Today, I am pleased to announce that you can purchase the Noctopolis VTT integration via the Roll20 Marketplace. In addition, I now have a bundle on DriveThruRPG that includes both the PDF version and the Roll20 VTT integration.

For anyone who missed the initial release, Noctopolis is an adventure module for Apocalypse Keys, a Powered by the Apocalypse horror superhero TTRPG system from Rae Nedjadi and Evil Hat in which you play as overpowered monsters called Omens. During gameplay, players will travel to the eponymous city of Noctopolis, a supernatural hot spot shrouded in perpetual night. Their mission: investigate why and how various superheroes are being abducted and replaced with more PR-friendly lookalikes. Given that threats within the city include a loose coalition of self-proclaimed supervillains, CEOs of magitech corporations who have a habit of buying off cops, the unremediated remnants of an infernal incursion, and an unknown number of dormant evils, the biggest challenge will likely differentiating between clues and coincidence, all while being uncertain as to who they can trust.

The Noctopolis module is Complexity 8, so unlike my one-shot module Sweet Dreams, it’s designed to last multiple sessions, making it ideal for a story arc or mini-campaign. The VTT integration is only available on Roll20 or DriveThruRPG, but if you only want the PDF, you can also grab Noctopolis from the site shop or Itch. Have fun playing, and remember to rate and review to help other people discover it!

Hello, everyone. You may have noticed that the blogs about my (Julia LaFond’s) participation in DayLITE releases have been deleted. This is due to multiple people coming forward about their mistreatment by Cam of Daylight Publications (if you’re unfamiliar with the situation, some of them have shared their accounts via Bluesky, including Fex, Ghoul, and Bear). Under the circumstances, I won’t be promoting, let alone working with, Daylight Publications in the future, and wanted to ensure my TTRPG site reflected that.

Thanks for your patience, and support the affected artists if you can.

A newspaper-style layout in which the central image is a group photo on a city street corner. On the left someone wearing a long, black, hooded cloak and red mask. To the right is a Black woman in sleek purple and gray powered armor who is giving this person bunny ears. She is being supported by floating water, which appears to be controlled by the person clinging to the side of a window above her: a stone-gray-skinned person with a tail and claws who has shoulder-length black hair and is wearing a red sweater with yellow chevrons over blue pants. In the center of the group is a muscular woman with light tan skin who is wearing hoplite-style armor and holding aloft a translucent glowy-gold spear that matches her round shield. Next in line is a fat, muscular man in a dark blue hoodie and gray camo pants and a black N95, plus face paint. He is clutching his forehead with his right hand. Holding on to his left arm is a person with pink skin and pink hair peeking out from beneath their blue onesie, which also has a beak, feathers, and space for their horns. In front of them is a St. Bernard dog who appears to be smiling and waving at the camera. A sign on a lamppost in the background says

Hello, everyone, and breaking news: I've just released "Noctopolis", a superhero horror Mystery module for Apocalypse Keys! In this Mystery, Omens must go undercover in the city of perpetual night to investigate the abduction and replacement of several superheroes with doppelgangers. But identifying the Harbinger might be difficult considering how many people stand to benefit from reshaping the city’s experimental superhero registration program to their own ends—not to mention the sheer number of overlapping supernatural hazards in the vicinity.

“Noctopolis” features cover art and character illustrations by Tanlynn Morgan (gremlinfrogart). As a Complexity 8 Mystery, this adventure will last several sessions, making it better suited for a story arc or a mini-campaign than for one-shots (unlike my previous module “Sweet Dreams”). It includes 1 custom move, 2 custom Keeper moves, 8 people of interest, 8 locations, 3 factions, 25 Keys, an 8-part Doomsday Clock, 7 threat playbooks, and a section with additional information to help out anyone new to running Apocalypse Keys (or who just likes additional structure).

For now it is available in PDF (and plain text) format, and I’m working on another Roll20 VTT integration. Make sure to check it out in the shop, on Itch, or on DriveThruRPG!

Also, if you’re curious about the heroes on the cover, here’s some tidbits that are definitely, irrefutably, 100% correct despite not being in the finished product:

  • I’m not saying Chiropter was a theater kid, but he always refers to a certain work by Shakespeare as “The Scottish Play.”

  • Despite being able to speak with actual ghosts, Water Weaver refuses to watch horror movies because they’re “too scary.”

  • Hex Wrench has never been caught disassembling the CEO of Killingsworth Industry’s favorite car and reassembling it in his office.

  • Light Skirmisher would infinitely prefer fighting giant robots to working customer service.

  • On average, 14 dogs, 5 cats, 2 hamsters, and 1 neon green sea gull get mistaken for Anymorph on a given Thursday in Noctopolis.

  • Captain Facepuncher refused to come up with a code name, so the internet picked it for him.

  • Blue Jay’s favorite bird is the blue jay, but pigeons and house sparrows are tied for second.

Thanks as always for your support, and stay tuned for addition updates!
